Hi, I'm Ben and I'm a writer. I've been to a few AA meetings for a family member, and sometimes I wonder if calling myself a writer is more of a problem akin to calling myself an alcoholic. The only money I've made at the profession has been from writing things that I don't give a shit about (yes, I'm a copywriter), while scribbling about the stuff I really enjoy has made literally pennies on HubPages and a small (but good) audience. Some silly things I've written are available for reading here as well.
I don't write much serious stuff these days, but I'd like to change that and continue focusing on the novels that I wasted time on in my late teens to early 20s. I've been working on a novel on and off for the past five years, one that I'd like to finally finish and send to agents. At the same time, I'm losing faith in that idea and I'm more in favor of posting things in serials here and seeing if they gain any traction. It doesn't cost anything, and I've been dealing with certain personal issues that have forced me to focus more on avenues that make me money.
I think this will be the place where I post short stories, essays, and possibly serialized novels. I tragically believe I'm a decent writer and have been told I have talent, although I'm always second-guessing myself. I do enjoy the accomplishment of having written something perceivably of merit, even if the writing itself is more of a pain than pleasure these days. The stories always excite me, though, and I really want to share those spaces in my twisted imagination.
